I researched the McShield error for a customer before and it relates to how McAfee ties itself into Perfmon counters. The only response that I saw was finger pointing by Microsoft and McAfee blaming each other. As for Word giving you Dr. Watsons, try to reinstall if possible on one machine. Maybe a dll is getting crunched by McAfee

Although I no longer work there, it facinates me that I got so many responses with almost the same answers!
I personally knew that it had something to do with the VirusScan vs. MS Office
I thank all that responded.

This pertains to your Network Associates Antivirus. The dssdata.dll file is from the antivirus software and the mcshield is a service that will be running on your server. For a short time fix you should be able to shut this service down. Contact Network Associates for troubleshooting this issue. Good luck.

I have had this same problem with the McShield DLL, when I contacted McAfee they told me it is a known problem that should not effect the operation of the PC. In order to fix it I was told to download the latest SuperDAT from McAfee.com and that would update the scan engine for McAfee and should resovle your problem.
Hope this helps.

Try removing office completly, and then install it again completly. If the problem persists, you will have to do the same to mcafee. The rest of the machines, you will have to remove mcafee and reinstall it. although but removing office should doit. I got this problem after updating to the lates .dat file from mcafee. they seem to bring a lot of problems, but i guess it beats the alternative.
