Dr. Watson error in Excel Worksheet

I have a spreadsheet created in Office 97 and then opened and used in Office 2000. Now when I ty to open the file it gives the macro virus warning, and then when I tell it to disable or enable macros and open, I get a Dr. Watson, access vilation error. The error log points to a fault at function 3005c5eb 832000 and dword ptr [eax] , 0x0 ds:00000018=????????.

Does anyone know how to resolve this without throwing away the spreadsheet and rebuilding it?
