Dr. Watson: Is it necessary?

by juiceboxhero . Updated 18 years, 3 months ago

I work the helpdesk at a company with about 200 users. At least a few times a week, I get calls about a system hanging.

When I get to the machine, it’s usually a startup error where the desktop has appeared, but no icons, no start menu. 90% of the time, all I do is run the task manager and kill the Dr. Watson process and everything loads normally. It does not reappear on the same computer very often.

I know nothing about debugging or the function of Dr. Watson. Am I perpetuating the problem by stopping the drwtsn32 process? Or if what I’m doing is harmless, can I somehow disable it permanently?
