Dr. Watson Winword.exe error

By agapae5 ·
I have a user that is getting a winword.exe Dr. Watson error message when trying to launch MS Word. Exception: Access violation (0xc0000005). I've tried repairing and reinstalling MS Office 2k and SP2 for MS Office 2k. I also tried disabling Dr. Watson in the registry but that did not correct the problem. Can anybody help?

Delete/rename Normal.dot
Delete all Word temp files. They all start with a tilde (~). In most cases you're safe deleting
~*.*
or ~?*.*
Try starting Word in safe mode.
Go to Start>Run and enter:
Winword.exe /a
Then look at any Add-ins under Tools>Templates and Add-ins.
Also look at the Word STARTUP folder
