Drifting Mouse Cursor

By leer154 ·
This just started. I'm running a windows XP system with 320 megs RAM, 450mhz processor and 60gig HDD. My cursor without warning just started drifting all over my page. I've done a virus check in safe mode found nothing. Ran Ad-Aware, HiJack this and CWShredder. Found nothing. Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem. Rather annoying when getting ready to click it drifts off intended click and runs all over screen. Thanks

I suggest that you start with a different mouse.

Make sure to turn the PC off before swapping a PS/2 mouse.

If a different mouse corrects the problem, you may want to open up your old mouse and give the rollers and optical wheels a thorough cleaning.

If it is an optical mouse, check the lens surface for scratches.
Any new devices near your PC that emit infrared energy? They could be the source of the problem.

Chas
