drive denying

By panju ·
hello guys,
once my boot sector was infected and warning message shown from AVG antivirus bootup scaner asking to remove it by the rescue disk or continue at ur own risk. i continued and remove the viruses by scanning it and the deleted it. my C drive contains win98 and D contains win XP. but after that i was not able to function XP but no [problem on 98 so i reinstalled XP. but after fresh installation of Xp i am not able to open E and F drive by double clicking it by mouse or pressing enter key after selecting it. My Hdd contains 4 partitions- C, D, E and F. but i can open C and D. when i tried open E and F i am getting an error message stating that " cannot find copy.exe ".

can anybody help me in this matter.

ACL

by plam In reply to drive denying

Assuming E and F drive was format using XP-ntfs, look at your ACL.
Drive-Right click- property/or share& security-Most likely you?ll see a strange name in there [Start with a bund of numbers-characters] add your user name and system and administrators give all full access-DON?T GO FURTHER if system, administrators is not add-able. When apply permission make sure to check all sub-directors and files. Once you?re able to access the file at the deepest level goes back and remove the ?strange name?. It?s the ACL from the previous installation.

actually i didnt lose my data. my all partitions are formated as fat32 and i can access drive E and F only by right clicking the mouse button and select 'open'. and no problem on data stored in that drives. but cant open these drives by double clicking it or by pressing enter key after selecting it by mouse.after the infection i formatted drive D from dos prompt after loading win98 and then inserted xp cd , booted and installed it. then i come to xp and tried to open drive E and F at that time i got the messasge " cannot find copy.exe ". what is that? after that i updated antivirus and scanned the whole system and it shows no problem. it happened after i reinstalled xp in drive D and drive C and D is accessable.

i know whats the problem here... you tried to remove the virus in drive c but you didnt know that the virus can make transfer in the other drive, believe me because i have a computer shop and how many time i exp. this kind of problem... if i wer you, backup your files then format the whole disk delete the partitions.. then install the clean win98 and xp again. before you copy the backup files in the new OS, make it sure to scan it first ok.

try this

by dangolrajesh In reply to Thanks but....

I am not sure whether it work or not but try this. You go to your drive which is not open by enter or double clicking. There you go to the tools menu-folderoptions-view. there you can find "show hidden files and folders. Please check it up and below that "Hide extension for known files types" and "Hide protected operating system files(Recomended)" Please uncheck that. then you can see there many hidden files. if you can find autorun.inf files please open it and see what files it open. Delete both autorun.inf and another file(That must be copy.exe). and then restart your computer. it should be open.
