If your PC is part of a corporate network, it may be that the use of the floppy drive has been disabled by the administrator.

Otherwise, check that the flat cables are properly connected (and not wrong way round), that power is connected.

Also check that floppy is enabled in the BIOS of your machine.

If all of that doesn't help, try another floppy drive, it may be that the hardware has failed.

Hi

Another thing to try is to open up Device Manager and, if present, delete the floppy drive controller from the list. Sometimes, the driver becomes corrupted. When you reboot, the computer will automatically detect it and reinstall the driver.

Good luck.

Assuming your BIOS detects your floppy drive properly, the problem could be that the BIOS has not reported the floppy drive to Windows.

One of the "features" of W95 and W98 was that they checked for new floppy drives every time Windows loaded. This could cause you to end up with multiple floppy drives.

To speed up boot times, a switch was added to most PC BIOSes to disable the reporting of floppy drives to Windows. You do need to enable the drive reporting at least once each time you install Windows.

It is also possible that your floppy drive has failed.

Set the BIOS so that the floppy drive is the first boot device.
With a bootable floppy in the drive, see if the system will boot from the floppy.

If you can't boot from a floppy, you may need a new floppy drive or cable.

Don't neglect making sure that the BIOS setting for the floppy drive is correct.
Windows will ignore a floppy drive if the drive does not match what the BIOS reports.
