Drive enumeration issue

By davide ·
I have a new XP Pro PC that is having some strange issues.

The PC is in a domain environment and has 3 network drives (H,J,K) to shared resounrces.
When the user connects a new storage device (ie USB drive) XP tried to assing a drive letter that is already being used.
Therefore although the drive is connected and recognized by the OS, the user cannot access it because it can't assing it thar drive letter.

I can manually change the letter on that specific device to something other then H,J,K but the same problem persist if the user inserts a new USB storage device

Any suggestions?

I came across this link researching the same problem. Seems to have worked for some people (can't remember what site I saw this posted on). Haven't tried it yet myself but have downloaded it and will load it on a test machine tomorrow.

Good luck.
