Drive Partition Free Space Error

By ellen.notehelfer ·
When I view the 10GB partition in the properties sheet of Windows Explorer on my 2003 Server, it tells me I only have 300MB free space. But when I add up the size of files and folders, they only total 5GB. (View is set to show hidden and system files.) And, when I run the DOS DIR command, it agrees with my calculation and says there is 4+GB free space. Who do I believe and how do I resolve the discrepancy?

I think you need to check your vitual memory and page file setting. There is a big chance that is the reason why you have that discrepancy. Virtual memory and page file are reserved by OS so it won't appear as free space.
I hope this explains your mistery...

The page file is on its own partition. I also defragged the drive.

Check your recycle bin settings. Change the amount of disk space allocated to the recycle bin.
