driver fails to load

By jern10 ·
Recently the system administrator reinstalled win95 on my laptop and as a result i've lost all drivers for my sound card. Obtained the a self extracting file which would setup itself through winshield. however, whenever i try to install the driverit fails.

The main reason for concern is that when i start up the computer a dialog box states that the MSSBLST.VXD driver either fails to load or hardware settings is not correct.

Would really appreciate help in getting rid of this problem:)

driver fails to load

Hello,

I would try this. First completely uninstall the SB Live software. Then, when windows boots up trying to install the sound card, I would just manually point to the SB drivers directory (as opposed to using SB's setup.exe
to setup the drivers.)

Try that and let me know as I've some more idears if this fails.

One more thing to add to his answer... If it doesn't detect the sound card after you uninstall you are going to have to shut down the machine and reseat the sound card.

First define reinstalled win95..
If the HD was formated and windows installed .. you lost the drivers...

If the admin simply reinstalled windows over top on the other install then your sound drivers are still on the HD..

In the case where your drivers are still on the HD. First you must remove the sound card form within device manager.. the click refresh and let the system redetect the sournd card.. When device manager detects the sound card simply direct windows to C:\WINDOWS\INF\OTHER for the INF file it wants.. Each time windows returns a dialog box indicating it can't locate a specific file click the [detail] button and that will show what file and where it will be copied.. then simply direct window to the specific folder where it is to be copied and it will setup the registry for that file.. You will need to follow the same step untill windows has meet all the necessary requirments in the INF file..

I can't even count the times I have used this method to setup modemsand sound cards that have been lost or the wrong drivers have been installed. It simply takes time..

Reference to reseating sound card on your laptop form other responce.. is misinformation.. laptops simply have intergrated sound chips and associated compoenents.. refering to sound card on laptop is simply a figure of speech..

Good Luck..
