So I just built a new computer, and my DVD drive is having issues. It opens it closes, it even reads disk fine. But when it does close I get a blue screen saying something along the lines of DRIVER_IRQL _NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.... What does this mean?

Wrong IDE Controller driver?

by robo_dev In reply to DRIVER_IRQL _NOT_LESS_OR_ ...

Did this hard drive come from an existing system?

If so, then the IDE controller driver is incorrect, which causes BSODs every time. Safest bet is to switch to generic Microsoft IDE driver, then install drivers specific to the ide (or sata) controller for your new system.

I bought this DVD drive retail online. Though i didn't install any drivers with it because it didn't come with a CD to do so. I have another DVD driver of the same type in there (both drives are sata ASUS drivers BTW). Where would I find this driver at?

I'd rather you posted with the ENTIRE error message ...

"I get a blue screen saying something along the lines of ..." - doesn't really cut it, because you'll only ever end up with something along the lines of the correct answer!

Also, the error messages mean slightly different things depending on what os you are running with.
