DSL line??

By vdawson ·
OK, Here goes....I have a DSL line put in our warehouse, but the GREAT phone Company would only put the DSL line RJ11 jack in a room where the phone stuff is. I need to make a cable that will let me move the modem to another room ( about 100 ft.) The phone people tell me I can use standard phone cable to run the line from the jack to the modem. SO can I use CAT3 cable to make the cable and how does I set the wires for the RJ11????

Yes you can use CAT3 for the telecom side. Just crimp the RJ11's so that the wires are "straight" through. In other words, when you look at each end of the cable the colored wires should be in the same order.

CAT 3 should work fine.

Wire the cable straight through pin for pin from the RJ11 plug to the new RJ11 jack.

The 4 lines of a standard RJ11 jack are Black, Red, Green, Yellow.

Red and Green are the 'standard' signal pair.

Cat 3 is the wire used in DSL line, since it's a regular phone line. You can crimp it the same way you crimp any cat3.
