DSL/Network

I am looking for step by step instructions on how to setup 3 computers peer-to-peer NT 4.0 to access the internet - i pretty much know how to network the 3 computers using a small 4 port hub but how do i connect them to the DSL line to access the internet? Hardware? Software?

Select a DSL provider in your area (cf. www.dslreports.com). The provider will send you a DSL modem. Plug the hub into a router. Plug the router into the DSL modem. The router will assign IP addresses to the computers and automatically log them intothe DSL provider. Very easy. Very convenient.
You will be able to access the web from all workstations at the same time.

There are a couiple of ways of doing this. If you do a search in TR, Q&A and Discussions for terms like "broadband sharing", "DSL Sharing", "Internet sharing", etc. you'll find some information.

A pretty good article is at:

My preference is as described in the previous response: get a small router. Since you already have a hub, you might look into getting a router by the same manufacturer, and cascading the hub off the router.

Your "best bet" is to get a router like SMC Barricade, Asante FriendlyNet, etc., that includes a 10/100 Mbps switch, DHCP server, firewall, and optionally a print server and port for a backup analogue modem.

After that it's just a matter of plugging the ISP supplied DSL "modem" into the WAN port on the router, and plug the PCs into the switched Ethernet ports. Configure your PCs to use the DHCP server and you're all set.
