DSL Problems

By g.zell ·
I purchased a new Dell 766 with 256 RAM in preparation for DSL. I have problems with the screeen freezing while online with DSL. It works fine with a dialup connection. I performed all of the registry tweaks suggested by by others. It helped butI still have this problem. Dell has been no help whatsoever.

Any suggestions?

sounds like a DSL hardware problem that is causing the screen to freeze, ask your ISP for latest updated software drivers compatible with your operating system.

I do not have any isp software running on my PC. I am using a router with the PPOE software residing on it. From the router to the PC is ethernet. I am running Win98.

If you are online for a little while when this happens it is more likely that you are having a video driver problem. See if Dell has an updated video driver for you machine, or if it is a 3rd party card get the driver from their website.

For theshort term you might want to try toning down the graphics settings and see if this helps. It will help you identify if it is truely video related.
I had an ATI card with this same issue in my home built machine.

Best of luck.

Thank you for the suggestions. I was leaning toward the video driver or monitor as being something to check into but wasn't sure which one to start with. It only occurs after we have been on line for an extended period.

Thanks again for the help.
