DSL Problems with Windows 98SE

by mjbigelow . Updated 22 years, 12 months ago

I recently signed up for DSL with Verizon. I hooked up the modem, checked all the settings and opened IE6.0. About 1 page of text downloads and then whatever site I’m downloading times out. If the site has a picture, no matter what size, it times out. In other words, the connection is horribly slow.

I called Verizon support and they couldn’t help so they sent out a technician. His laptop worked fine with the same connection, so he told me it was my laptop. So, I took it to a friend’s house who has Qwest DSL and it worked fine. Additionally, this laptop worked fine with Verizon DSL at the place I used to live.

So, my question is, what’s wrong? Is it a software conflict? I thought the ethernet card was damaged, but since it works at my friend’s house, I doubt it. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!!

Mark
