DSN using DAO

By lal.jatin ·
Hi Everybody

i want to connect the access database through DSN by using DAO. Actually i have developed software using vb6 as front end and access as back end (by DAO). now the problem is i have to share my computer in which the data base is located everywhere by mapping the network drive which is very-2 ensecure anybody can delete the database from his computer from mapped drive.

i think Database connectivity through DSN will be the way to secure the database.

please help if any other way if you have.

Will this be...

...an open DSN? or Private, VPN? IF it's open to the rest of the internet you'll probably have trouble. Also, while you didn't state what type of data you had to share, I would say you'd be better off in the long run with a dedicated Data Base Server, such as MS SQL or MY SQL. or Samba for other uses. Just MO mind you. It sounds like an interesting solution you've come up with though. As for secure, it will depend on usage, and if it's alowed Internet access or not. -d

That's not a solution it's just a shed load more problems

drop access and get a full DBMS.

SQL Express for instance, should be a fairly easy migration.

Create a network service attached to access and then access the service from clients. VB6 will struggle with this as it can't thread.

Implement the thing as a web app.

VB6 and access with DSNs you do appreciate how out of date this is I presume?
