Dual Boot – 2 win98 environs

by rbresee . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

As a tech in an academic environment, I have been asked to deploy twinned win98 os’s on the lab machines. We use Ghost to deploy the images. Traditionally, we had used OS/2 boot manager to create 2 separate ‘c’ drives, but have found that os2 v2.1 bootmanager does not like drives larger that 4 mb. The os2 warpserver version of bootmanager with a patch will handle drives over 8.4gb, but then the Ghost process won’t identify the correct boot partition unless imaged in a sector by sector mode. This process takes up to 3 hours to push a 10gb drive. Without using sector by sector, I can deploy the same image in about 20 minutes (dependant on network traffic)
We are a government run college and therefore have no budget for software (ie PQ Magic) as this will need to be deployed to hundreds of systems.

Any suggestions– another bootmanager that is very clean simple, and impossible for users to screw up. — a prep tip prior to ghosting to allow the image to pick up the os/2 boot partition? Any thing at all.
