Dual boot 95/2000 with 2000 first?

By siis ·
I have win2000 on a machine and would like to dual boot with 95. I know when you install NT and 2000 you can choose the partition in order to dual boot. Can I install 95 in the system without having to install it first, or to c: where 2000 is?

If you have partitioed the hard drive, where as one of the partitions is fat then it will not be a problem when set up searches the for the file system,it will setup the recognized file system for install.
The only way that you cannot use the same directory is that you have two hard drives and that you select the second hard drive to set-up WIN95 on,otherwise the partition in on C:/,will be an extended partition and given the next available drive letter.

I may be wrong about this but.. As I recall the Golden Order for installing dual boot systems is to install win9x FIRST. If it's not too much of a pain in the fanny, you might want to start over.

As a secondary option, you could get "Partition Magic 5.0" which comes with software to create multi-boot machines. I've used this option in the recent past with great success!

The best way is to partition your hard drive first(normally 2gb each). Then install Win95 onto the primary partition. Next install Win2000. Win2000 will detect the original operating system and ask what partition you would like to install Win2000 on. Once you have formated the partition and installed Win2000 you will be able to select which operating system you wish to use. Remember to use fat and not NTFS, if you wish to share data and programs between the two operating systems. You can changethe Primary operating system and the time-out within Win2000.

Hope this Helps
