Dual BOOT 98 & XP: auto power up problem

I have setup a machine with one 80 gig hard drive that has Win98 on C and Win XP Pro on D and the rest of the partitions for data, etc.

I am just wondering if anyone of you had this problem: I have set up in the BIOS daily to POWER UP my PC at 8:30 AM and it usually works on 98 – meaning it BOOTS UP every day at that time. But when I make Win XP Pro as my default OS, it doesn’t start up automatically in the morning.

Win 98 SE is configured as APM, while in XP it is ACPI. Has HAL got anything to with it?

Where is my problem? Any direction I should take?
