Dual BOOT 98 & XP: auto power up problem

By Jerri ·
I have setup a machine with one 80 gig hard drive that has Win98 on C and Win XP Pro on D and the rest of the partitions for data, etc.

I am just wondering if anyone of you had this problem: I have set up in the BIOS daily to POWER UP my PC at 8:30 AM and it usually works on 98 - meaning it BOOTS UP every day at that time. But when I make Win XP Pro as my default OS, it doesn't start up automatically in the morning.

Win 98 SE is configured as APM, while in XP it is ACPI. Has HAL got anything to with it?

Where is my problem? Any direction I should take?

Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks for your help & time.

Jerri :-)

ACPI will only work if both your mobo and bios support it. Check the documentation that came with your computer to verify if this is the case. If not, then I believe that to remove ACPI from the XP installation would require a reinstall (somebody correct me if I'm wrong here).

Cheers.

Obviously, my mobo and bios supports ACPI as Windows XP detected it and configured it automatically as an ACPI-compliant machine when first installed.
