Dual boot using a removable microdrive

By sanjay.oza ·
Is it possible to dual boot a laptop using the PC card removable microdrive? I need to do this to run applications that are only compatible with W2K but the laptop has WXP Pro on a Toshiba Satellite 1800.

In theory, yes. If it is possible to boot the laptop from the microdrive.

The "traditional" way:
Have W2K installed on the micro-drive.
Either edit boot.ini on the XP drive, or use the bootcfg command to add the option to boot to W2K.
See thedual boot page at www.systeminternals.com
Or search Microsoft's site for boot.ini and bootcfg

Or, the "un-conventional" way:
If you can select the boot device, just change from the C: drive to the Microdrive.
Depending on how often you need todo this, you may be able to disable the C: drive.

Hi,

...but it all hinges on the microdrive being available when you boot. If it takes special drivers or software to work under Windows, then you probably wont be able to do it...

Boot to DOS on a stock standard boot floppy. Is the drive available from the bootable floppy?

If not, then I dont like your chances.

Cheers,
Tim.
