Dual booting XP and Vista

by dean wheatley . Updated 17 years, 3 months ago

I have been running XP pro for a while and wanted to run vista as well, I tried to run the install from the boot cd and when I tried to run the install it failed reporting an issue with the selected HDD.
So i removed the XP hdd and all others from the machine and installed vista 64bit, all well and good. I have now put the other HDD’s back in and wanted to edit the boot.ini file to add the vista os on bootup.

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Professional” /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(2)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Vista 64″ /noexecute=optin /fatsdetect

was added to the boot.ini but it won’t work. The vista hdd is on SATA channel 3 (disk 2)…Is my syntax correct here or should multi and rdisk read something else?
