Dual Core / Dual Core 2 / AMD / Intel – which is best

Before I jump and buy my next Laptop, I’d like to make sure I know which processor to choose.

I’m looking for high performance. The Laptop will be used for intense computing and software development.

I understand that Dual Core is the current technology, but which processor is best for me ?
