Dual core on XP Home version

By northwood ·
Does XP Home version support dual core computer?

If I install XP Home version onto a dual core computer, will XP home recognize and use the two CPUs?

Not really you are far better off using XP Pro as it has support for 2 CPU's which is effectively what 1 Dual Core CPU is.

If you load Home onto a computer with a Dual Core CPU it will work but only on one of the cores so you are wasting your money in buying a High End CPU.

Home does support Dual Core

by tim.mcgovern In reply to

XP Home does not support multiple *processors* but does support Dual Core.

Microsoft defines a processor as a module that plugs into a socket. That processor can be dual-core, multithreaded, or both, and XP Home will still support it.

You have full support of dual core processors in the XP Home. You can even set affinity to one CPU0 or CPU1.
