Dual Dialup Modems in Windows 98 SE

by robert_smith . Updated 24 years, 6 months ago

I NEED a QUICK SOLUTION that is a tried-and-true method for utilizing TWO dial-up modems at the same time in Windows 98 Second Edition. The modems can be the same model or hybrid models and the ISP used is unimportant. Do not assume a SHOTGUN modem compliant ISP or anything like that. We will not be produring special modems or changing to special dual-modem ISP’s for this. We have unlimited concurrent connections to our existing ISP at this client site through our contract with their ISP – so dual modems per machine is a good idea – even three modems per machine would be viable. The client is in a FLAT RATE local calling area, so per minute charges, and has a call center that used to be POTS lines that are all available now – and we have wired the cable runs to each of the eight destop offices that will use the POTS lines for this SOLUTION – POTS = Plain Old Telephone Service or “regular phone line” for those who don’t know. I do not condecend; I just never make assumptions. So, we have eight PC’s, all identical, that will utilize this solution – and A BOX of 50-100 modems ready to be put into these eight machines. The modems we would like to use are 3COM/USR V.90 56K WinModems but we have the BOX FULL of late-model modems – so you can assume any model or make of modem – just no prpritary technolgy modems like “Shotgun” modems. We do not have them and wont buy them. Client cannot afford it. Make sure your solution addresses IRQ interrupt issues if any, or memory address or DMA issues – most importantly “HOW WILL WINDOWS 98 SE’s DIAL UP NETWORKING USE TWO – THREE MODEM CONNECTIONS AT ONCE? I have not tried this yet, but am doubting it can do it as easily as more robust OS’s can. Your providing me with a functional, step-by-step RAPIDLY DEPLOYABLE SOLUTION will gain you ALL of the 6100 points offered here. (IMPORTANT READING IN COMMENTS BELOW)
