Dual Monitor

By ash11721077 ·
Hello, my name is Shawn. Here is my system:
AMD Quad-Core 2.6ghz black edition CPU
Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H AM2+
Gigabyte GV-N94TOC-1GH Nvidia GeForce 9400GT 1024m 128-bit Gddr2 PCI-Express 2.0 x16
4g ddr2800
Vista Ultimate 64-Bit

here is the question:
the video card can handle dual DVI-D. i have 2 monitors. one is 19" widescreen with the DVI-D, the other is 17" VGA-DVI-D. the 17" is my secondary monitor. When i start the computer in the mornings it takes about 20min to 2 hrs for the monitor to wake up. i have used the monitor as a primeary monitor for 2 yrs until u build this system and started using it as my second monitor.

i have the updated drivers.

What exactly do you mean my wake up?

While it is sleeping:

If you move the mouse over to the secondary monitor does it "wake up"?

If you go to Properties > Seettings on the good monitor and hit Identify does that wake it up or display the number?

Have you set the Second Monitor as Active

by OH Smeg In reply to not waking up

In the Display proprieties?

Also some monitors do not come out of Power Saving correctly you need to switch them off and back on again. This is to do with the lack of a signal to wake them up after you return to the computer or it could be a damaged Video Lead where one of the 15 Wires has been broken internally. Look for kinks or signs of a bend in the lead and at the ends as this is where most problems occur.

A few questions.

by 1bn0 In reply to Dual Monitor

Have you tried swapping the monitors to see if the issue is related to the video port/card?

Have you tried replacing the DVI-VGA adapter?

How old is the monitor. Have you tried using it in a standard single video port system.
It may just be at its end of life.

Well, that answers your question.

There's a reason monitors usually have a 1 year warranty period. The reliability of the monitor after that length of time is questionable at best. And, after using it for 2 years previously, it's lived beyond it's expected life span.

If you've plugged that monitor into another computer and it's doing the same thing, that pretty well answers your question, doesn't it? The monitor is on it's way out.
