An NT 4.0 PDC server has three NIC cards that are not load balanced. They have three separate IP addresses. The person who set this up states that if one of the nic cards fails users will still be able to log on and use network resources automatically. No DNS or WINS record pointers to the other NICs. Without configuring the NIC’s for load balancing, I don’t see how this can be done. First, Can it be done? Second what are the ramifications on having muliple Nics, multiple IPs on the PDC? Could it cause unnecessary network traffic?
