Where can I find instructions to install WNNT 4.0 on a second HDD on my WN2000 system? I have two drives, one with 2000 ntfs and one fat 32. Help. Thank you, Tom

As things stand I don’t know that you can install NT4 onto the machine. FAT32 is definaely NOT supported for an NT install, you will need to re-install the second drive as FAT before you can start the install. I think that once the install is on themachine it will detect the 2000 install and create a new menu for the boot options, I’ve never done things this way around though, I would install Dos first, then win9x, NT4 and finally 2000 so that you get a 2000 menu rather than an NT4 one. (I know you don’t want 9x or DOS) the one 2000 menu will support everything you need!

I attempted the same thing, with out using something along the lines of Partition Magic, I am not sure it can be done. It appears that the NTLDR version 5.0 is not compatable with NT 4.0. Gotta love the new “features”. Good luck but, Partition Magic may be your only answer. (FYI: Fat32 will not be seen by your NT 4.0 install either way).

The basis for the instructions can be found in the guide that came with your Windows 2000 disk. It is important to do a complete backup of all your files. If your hard disk is formatted with NTFS, it is strongly recommended not to use a dual boot configuration. To set up dual boot, you should either use a separate drive or disk partition for each operating system. The primary partition (boot partition) should be Fat or Fat32; Also, the current Windows NT 4.0 must have SP4 installed. After Win2000 is installed you can use Disk Management to make changes.
