DUN and Windows NT

After installing my 56K USR Modem I tried to set up dial up networking on Windows NT. I got a multiple insert Windows NT CD messages then RAS (and other) files missing messages and was unable to use the modem or get online. How do you set up WindowsNT to use a modem?

check whether Remote access service is added or not.Right click on Network neighbourhood and go to properties. Click on services Tab. If you don't see Remote access service, add that service here.
Hope you configured the modem correctly. This should solve the problem.

RAS needs to be configured 1st. before you can setup your modem. If the RAS has already installed then you might need to remove it -> reboot your machine -> reinstall the RAS again -> then last reapply the latest NT Service Pack and reboot the system again.
After all, try to setup your modem again.
Let me know. Good luck.

Just about any time you get an Insert NT CD message followed by any "files missing" message, you can figure the service did not install properly. What it usually means is that the software thinks the CD drive has a different letter than it really does.

Double-check your CD drive letter, re-install the RAS service and when it says to insert the NT CD, make sure the path points to x:\winnt\i386 where "x" is your CD drive letter. Then it should find the files it needs and successfully installthe service.

regards!
