    duplicate ip address issue

    Locked

    by edudley ·

I have an duplicate ip address error. It gave me the Mac address of the other machine. What is the best way of locating the other pc? It is the one with the incorrect address. Is there a command that can use the mac address to give me more information so I can locate the other pc.

If you were active, and someone tried to come up on the net with your address and caused you to get the message, it is not easy. On the other hand, you still have the address, and they were told that the address was in use.

If you rebooted onlyto find that someone had hijacked your IP address it is somewhat easier to track them down.
Open a command (DOS) window. Type:
      nbtstat -A 111.222.333.444
where 111.222.333.444 is your (hijacked) IP address. This will give you the Netbios name of the station with that IP address.

      Good luck.
