By deepaksi ·
Hi,
Very recently I noticed that my DVD drive is unrecognizable. I tried CDs, DVDs but it does not recognize / drive(DVD Drive). I have updated the latest DVD drivers by downloading from DELL but still no luck.

I have windows XP professional,
DELL model - Inspirion 6000

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have heard of this with XP

You may want to reload the OS. But before you take that step, find out if the drive itself is operational. It may have died on you and would need to be replaced.

My HP laptop recently had that happen. I have an external drive which is workable but not the best solution and the lappie has developed other problems as well.

Good luck!

You may wish to try a Repair Install from the Dell CD

By following the directions here

But as you have XP Pro if you are using the Encrypted File System you either need to backup all your Data Unencrypted or Backup your Encryption Key as by Performing a In Place Install you will loose the Encryption Key and your data will be effectively lost forever.

If you want to backup the encryption key follow the directions here
