DVD drivers cause FE Error and freeze

By Casemaker ·
Hi,
I have a pc that when I insert a dvd or cd I get a FE Error and blue screen of death. The error message references a vxd scsi that called the conflict. In safe mode I dont have the problem. I switched it with a new dvd ,same FE message. I switched from cable select to master and slave and it would not boot. I then put it back and it FE error after it boots to desktop. I disconnected the dvd and power and it boots and runs fine. I need to know if there is a way to uninstall the dvd drivers and try new ones.
Thanks

Hi,

Sure... although you didn't mention which OS you've got... but assuming Win98 its properties of "my computer", the device manager tab, select the DVD's driver and hit remove.

When you reboot, you'll be prompted to add the freshly downloaded, new and improved drivers for the "new hardware" so have them ready either on a floppy or locate them on your harddrive somewhere.

If you're looking for drivers go to the manufacturer's web site or you can try...

I searched google for scsi1hlp and found several pages on this file. It is specific to the dvd and Q. I had to rename the file from scsi1hlp.vxd to scs1hlp.old and the pc boots and runs fine. The dvd played a regular cd I did not have a dvd to test.
