    DVD light blinks constantly….

    Locked

    by savon19 ·

and I think it is causing my computer to freeze periodically. (Win ME)

There is no CD/DVD in drive, so I think it’s trying to read it but can’t find anything so causes my computer to blue screen and/or freeze.

Any suggestions will be most appreciated!

Disconnect the drive and see if your PC still goes to the BSOD or freeze. check to see if the cables are plugged correctly.
Check for dust/dirt in the drive that could cause its senspr to think there is a disk in it.

blow it out, clean it, then reinstall. if you still have a problem get a new DVD drive.

A data connection problem could also cause the drive to continue seeking a disc. I would try a different IDE cable to the DVD drive, and while swapping I’d check the pins on the DVD drive. If any are bent or pushed in, there is a missing link between your drive and mainboard.
