I am running windows 2000 on a PC I bought about 6 months ago. Twice now I have had the same problem. All is working OK and then I insert a CD it loads OK into the drive but then locks, I cann’t read the CD, eject it or anything. The special eject button won’t even work. The computer acts as though no cd has been loaded.
The rest of the PC still works fine.
If I physically remove the DVD drive from the PC and disconnect the leads and reconnect it, then it works OK again.
I thought it may have been a virus so I updated my Norton antivirus software, but it didn’t make any difference.
I thought it was a faulty DVD drive so I got another and replaced the existing 1, same make etc, but my PC now will not boot correctly. It goes all through the boot sequence until it has nearly finished loading the desk top and then reboots itself. When I left it for 30 minutes it just kept doing the same thing over and over again.
I then put the old DVD drive in and all worked OK again.
Any ideas?
