if you have an empty 5 1/4 drive bay you just put the dvdrom drive in it.
if not, remove the cd and put the dvd there.

copying dvd files, from application dvd can be done, usually at least 3 cdroms to one dvd.

Just a side note:

If you are just looking to access data DVD's you should be able to swap the existing CD drive with a DVD reader drive.

However, if you are looking to watch DVD movies, you just don't have enough horse-power for the task. At a minimum, you need more RAM. And more than likely, a faster CPU.

As to converting a CD drive to a DVD drive, all you need to do is replace ALL of the internal parts in the CD drive with the parts from a DVD drive.
The laser pickup, electronics, and motors are all different for playing DVD disks.

Got your message.

Playing DVD movies with a codec (software) player uses a LOT of RAM and works the CPU hard.

Running any form of memory multiplier will NOT help for this task.
All virtual memory and software memory enhancers use CPU cycles and the hard drive to create slower speed temporary memory.

The "best" option to play DVD movies on this low power of a system would be a DVD decoder card.
These plug into a PCI slot and use hardware instead of software to decode the DVD into video.

As stated you probably don't have enough of a system to play dvd media.

If your particular system has a dvd drive that is designed for your system you can simply replace your existing drive with a dvd drive.

It would be safe to say however that your system doesn't support a DVD drive of any kind.

Good Luck

With MACS you're most likely short on options, since the CD Drives on them are integrated into the MAC itself. What about getting an external USB DVD drive? You can get a cheap one that is MAC compatible

The problem is not if the drive will fit. The buss and mounting is not a problem.

The problem is whether the computer itself will support it.

Call these guys they can give you the skinny.
