    DVD/+R/-R/+RW burner problems

    by ernet_78 ·

Hello, I purchased a Pioneer model:A108 OEM 16xDVD/+R/-R/+RW Double layer Burner. I can use it to burn cd’s & DVD’s(data & AV files) and browse the files in Window explorer. But I can’t play any DVD’s and open any data files from this burner as well as another DVD ROM within the same PC. I already did the master & slave connection for them. When I’m trying to play/open the files, the system prompts me with error & crashes. My PC’s OS is Window XP professional(chinese Version). I’ve installed the most updated drivers & firmware downloaded from Pioneer’s web site but the problems still exist. However I can play or open these burned DVD’s AV/data files in an older & slower speed DVD ROM on another PC, why?
Thank you for any advice you can give me.

well, little known issue with windowsxp builtin cd/dvd burning software.
it burns it for only the original computer, to stop warez / illegal duplication.
buy yourself burning sofdtware or install the software that came with the dvdrw

that is weird. what, pray tell, is the error it is prompting you with?
i would be trying the dvd drive in another box or bring a known to work dvd drive to this box to rule out the burner.
what is set to open the avi files? is it windows media player what version
      does anything else work funky
no worries about spyware and viruii?
