DVD+R won’t recognize media

After I downloaded an XP update Windows has stopped recognizing recordable media. It tells me that the CD-RW or the DVD+R disc I’ve inserted has 0 files available. I’ve tried uninstalling all my burning software (Roxio Easy Media Creator), upgraded the software. Nothing works. My way around it has been copying the files I want to burn from Windows and pasting the files into then using the Roxio program directly. Does anyone know how to fix this?
