What happens when you run an application? What error do you get?

Are the application discs scratched or damaged? Are they burnt copies? If available try another copy of the application to see if it is not the disc.

the error message that came up was " the application failed to initialize properly (0Xc0000006). click on OK to terminate the application. When i looked in event viewer the message said "the driver detected a controller error on \device\cdrom1".
I have tried changing them over from secondary master to secondary slave, but i get the same error.
