DVD-R closed on writing a file???

By jzemanek ·
I know with a CD-R you can write a file, close the CD, play it or whatever. I notice that with a DVD-R I can only write one file to it (much smaller than the 4+ gig available) and the DVD is closed to writing additional files at a later time.
Is this the normal thing? I know I can use a DVD-RW but they are considerably more expensive than the DVD-R.

i believe this is the normal thing. you can't re-write/append unless is RW. but you could check preferences in your cd burning software. might be in general preferences or might be in job properties mine let's me uncheck the box that say's 'close disk' see if you have that and try it.

DVD-R is a write once medium. Spend the money for a DVD-RW. It can be written on up to 1000 times. What kind of files are you trying to write? Post a comment.

In Nero, there is a selection called" Start Multi Session". If you use this, then you can still write data on a later date until the disc is full. Try this selection on DVD-R.
