DVD Rom Connection Problem

By blair ·
I've just replaced 2 Pioneer DVD R/W drives with 2 Plextor drives using the identical setup, but now Vista only recognizes 1 drive as being attached. I swapped all the connections around to see if that was the problem to no avail. I can't figure out hoe something so simple can be this much trouble.

Help appreciated.

Depends on the type of Optical Drive here

If they are IDE then there are 6 pins to the right to the Data Lead that need to be set to either Master on 1 and Slave on the other Drive or to CS Cable Select on both.

What you need to do here is to look at the position of these jumpers on the drives that came out and make sure that they are set identically on the new drives this may not mean the same position but to the same setting which is Master, CS or Slave. It is possible that different makes of Optical Drive have different Pin Positions so you need to check that these are correctly configured.

If these are SATA Drives there is nothing to set it's just a matter of Plug & pray that they work.
