DVD-ROM Drive - Engineered by SATAN?

By redshift ·
I'm dealing with a customer's Compaq 5700 series PC. For reasons that I don't want to dive into here, I had to re-enumerate all of the customers hardware. Everything's swell but the Compaq DVD-113 on the 2ndary IDE - when I put a CD-ROM into it and it tries to browse or autorun, it blue screens with a reference to scsi1hlp.vxd and I have to reboot.

What should I do?

DVD-ROM Drive - Engineered by SATAN?

If you are not using any SCSI devices (you said that your drive is IDE), then rename scsi1hlp.vxd to scsi1hlp.OLD -- you do not need it.

If windows won't let you rename it (file already in use), then boot to dos and rename it manually. then reboot.
