DVD-Rom Drive is not detected by BIOS

by mapp84 . Updated 24 years, 5 months ago

My system:
Abit KT7-A
AMD Duron 850
196 RAM
SB Live 1024
GeForce 2MX
Latest flashed BIOS drivers
13gb WD HDD
52X CD-ROM (LG)
RWD4224 CDRW

My DVD-Drive was working perfectly before (despite refusing to run in DMA mode). It is set to Primary Slave. Now, when I power up the computer, the drive light switches on for a second, then stops and the entire drive is inaccessible, I cannot eject and I cannot play CDs. The BIOS doesn’t detect it, so obviously Windows (98 First Edition) doesn’t either. I have tried changing the jumpers, putting it on Secondary (Master and Slave) and even using a new cable, all with the same problem. My CDRW and CD-ROM work on the same setting, so my guess is that its a drive problem.

Any self-fix I can do, or will I have to have it replaced under warranty?

Thanks in advance
