DVD-ROM seems not to like PowerDVD!

by saxman642 . Updated 23 years, 11 months ago

Only just bought a brand new Artec 16x DVD-ROM drive. (www.artecusa.com)
Installed the drive and installed PowerDVD 3 on each OS of my multiboot system (win98 SE/2000 Pro/XP Pro)

Stupid drive won’t read or see DVDs with PowerDVD installed, but it reads CDs fine. When I uninstall PowerDVD the drive reads DVDs. Occurs across all OSes. Only by persistent opening and reinserting of the dirve while refreshing the My computer window will get the drive to read DVDs in Win98….after about 5-10 minutes of trying.

Motherboard is a PC Chips M810LMR Rev. 1.6 (www.pcchips.com.tw)with a Duron 700MHz, 256MB RAM

What the hell could be going on here? All advice is graciously appreciated, as I am gonna redo the entire drive the coming weekend toverify that the software is not the problem.
