You must have some different software on the laptop such as an ISO reader.

In order for an ISO image to be readable on any PC, you cannot just burn the ISO file to the disk.

You need to use the options of your burning software to burn the ISO file to a CD. This takes the ISO image and converts it into files.

Another possibility is that the DVD drive on your desktop cannot read the type of disk that the ISO file is on.

If the disk is a DVD -R, burn the image onto a DVD +R disk and see if you can now read it on your desktop system.

One last "reality check", your desktop does have a DVD drive?
You cannot read DVD disks on CD drives.

Why not just install a virtual drive, I suggest using Nero or Alcohol 120, then you can create as many virtual drives as neede, and be able to read iso images w/o having to convert them, or tie up your dvd/cdrw.
