DVD Unsupported

By YNTBOM ·
After upgrading from Win98SE to Win2K I can not play DVD's anymore. I have a decoder problem. I have a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1202 dvd. I receive a decoder error when I attempt to play a dvd. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure this is a hardware issue and not the players itself?

Are you receiving a 'CODEC' error when playing a home made DVD or is it when you try to play retail DVD's?

If it is a codec issue for a home made or downloaded file, you will need the codec for whatever your media player software is.
You can download the Kazaalite Mega codec pack that will play practically any avi, mov, divx file etc from here: http://tinyurl.com/3a7m

If it is the DVD player software such as WinDVD or AOL DVD express, your best bet is to remove and reinstall it.

Also try to download "Video-LAN" .. it is freeware, for all OS available and plays almost EVERY Movie/DVD-Files ... ;-))

Your comments were what the doctor ordered. I applied your comments and got the decoder working. The DVD is working fine now. Thanks for the assist.....

I found that some software that worked with 98 did not work with 2000. DVD playing software was one in particular that had more incompatabilities than others. It is possible that if you left your DVD decoder software in from the Win98 installation and performed an upgrade that that is the cause of your problem.
