DVD wont play through without error

I have had my brand new DVD ROM checked and apparantly it is fine. However, when I try to play a DVD (brand new, no scratches or dust), it will play for a while and then it will stop and will not start again without reopening the program. Sometimes a windows error will occur aswell and shut down the program. I have used powerDVD, windows media player, and a program that came with a DVD that I bought…. ALL DID THE SAME THING. It’s driving me crazy! Is it just the programs I’m using or is it windows XP or what?
