    dvdr-rw acting weird

Try this one:A dvdr-rw drive will not read any oem/burned/cd-rw/dvd disc that has data on it.The light comes, the drive controller light comes on,stays on,then the system reboots-every time, even when I leave the disc in and reboot it loops the the reboot indefinately.Remove the disc, and it’s fine and dandy.Blank discs work fine and you can burn them all day. They don’t cause a reboot.None of this occurs in safe mode at all.Dead Windows?(p4HT 3.4ghz,512mb,ide,nVidiaTI200,SBLive5.1,SmartLink56k)

that is weird. are you running a ‘make your cdrom look like a floppy disk’ software? i wonder if it is an old version with a resource leak. perhaps you’ve updated to xp sp2 recently?
try turning software off for a test. post your burner software version and windows version please?

have you try to play original cd or original dvd movies?

if the problem still occurs, you better replace a new dvd-writer drive

Well,it doesn’t matter what type of disc it is,IF there is data on it,it will stop, then reboot. The burning software is Roxio 6 basic w/updates,and directCD(drag-to-disc) is turned off(i.e.it doesn’t load @ startup)I’m gonna toss the drive, just to be sure. Also dig this,I got a call @ work for THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM on a blade array at a medical company here in town. The dvd-r-rw is used for daily backups, and does the same thing, blanks are good, but don’t put ANY recorded/oem disc in it.I think we may have a bad production run for at least two companies-LG and Lite-On.

Final note: It was a bad unit on both occasions,no real problem with either the server(pIV,dual core,win2kserver)or the workstation(pIV dual core, winXP prosp2),an LG and a Lite-On respectively. Thanks for your help.
