Dying Hard Drive

by wthkah . Updated 19 years, 2 months ago

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 that’s about 5 years old. I recently have not been able to defrag the hard drive (original drive, Maxtor). It blue screens stating IRQL not less or equal.

Ran Dell diagnostic tools. Ran all the hard drive tests.

Drive specs:

ATA
Maxtor 6L080L4
Firmware A93.0500
LBA Supported ? Yes
UDMA Supported ? Yes
Block Size ? 512
Total Blocks ? 156355584
Total Capacity ? 80054MB

During the Read Test got the following error:

Error Code 0F00:2044
Msg Block 123394980 Uncorrectable Error

During the Verify Test got the following error:

Error Code 0F00.1A44
Msg Block 123394980 Uncorrectable Error

Also ran Seagate?s SeaTools for Windows (Seagate bought Maxtor, and this is the program they recommended running). Got a failure message after running the Long Drive Self Test.

So, is it time for a new hard drive? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
