I use win/xp and am having trouble opening attachments that are sent.It seems that if my mail server does'nt recognize the pgm. that sent the attachment I am told to find a compatable pgm to open the attachment.This request is in the form of a window that give me 2 options. (1) to select one from the Windows Help site or (2) pick one of my own. ?????? thanks

PGM=portable graymap file format
It is obvious that your XP doesn't support this format. PGM was written long before XP came out. It is possible that there are no compatible PGM for XP. If Microsoft carry this format, then get it from them, I don'tknow any other site that you can download PGM for XP. So, I would say search the web, or ask your friend to send attachment in another format that supports XP.

You need the the same program to open the attachment as the one it was created with.

eg: If the file is created in Powerpoint, you need Powerpoint to open it. If you can't recognise the program required from the extension of the filename (Powerpoint files, for instance are *.pps - Adobe Acrobat files are *.pdf, MS Works documents are *.wps, *.wks or *.wdb), find out from the sender(s) what the actual program is that they are using to create the attachments.

Either that or send me an e-mail listing the full file names of the attachments you can't open, and I will assist wherever possible.

Cheers
