E-mail links willnot open browser

By mctazman2 ·
I have WIndows 98 SE with Microsoft Outlook Express 5.5 and IE 6.0. I just recently updated WIndows with all the security patches needed. Now when I click on a link in an e-mail, I cannot get it to open the browser window. Originally this was IE 5.5SP2 when I did he security patches. I upgraded Internet Explorer thinking that this was the problem. I can work around by stopping the browser which then populates the URL in the address bar and then click go, but really annyoing. Can anybody help?

You should give this a try. Go to Internet Explorer and choose tools, internet options. Find the program tab. Click on it and make sure that outlook express is set as your default email. Also you need to put a check next to internet explorer should check to see if it is default browser. Then close your IE and Outlook Express. Go back into outlook express and click on a link and see if it works. Good Luck1

Ok, try this. Go to start, settings, control panel. Then double click on add/remove programs. Go to the Windows Setup tab and make sure that there is a check beside Outlook Express. If there is not put one there. Also when you start internet explorer does it display a message about NOT being your default browser would you like to make it? The reason the links are not working is becuase outlook express is not your default mail handler or internet explorer is not your default browser. A way to check to see if outlook express is your default is by clicking on tools, options in your outlook express. At the bottom of the general tab, both make make default's should be grayed out.
