E-Mail worm?

By bruce ·
For several weeks now, most members of my family have been receiving e-mails from friends and strangers that either have some textual reference to Klez or has nothing more than a tiny icon in the upper left corner. I suspect these mails contain somekind of virus or worm, so I have been deleting them. I am using Norton Anti-Virus 2000, religiously keep the definitions up to date, and scan everything every night using Windows 98 scheduler. What concerns me is that I may be the source of this worm, that it may somehow be hidden from Norton. I do not use IE, but prefer Netscape 6 as my browser of choice. I normally only activate Java, Javascript, and cookies when I access my TechRepublic or other accounts that require them. Any thoughts?

E-Mail worm?

Have you watched a scan all the way through to make sure it completed scanning EVERY file on your computer?
Klez comes in dozens of varieties. It is able to disable and control Windows Virus Scanning and more. I suggest you go to Symantec Supportsite and look for how to remove Klez in DOS Mode.
We use McAfee and had to use their DOS Command directions on four computers that became infected before the DAT was out. It simply takes control of you scanning or won't allow the use of a scan command at all. Our Web Shield is currently blocking four to six Klez attacks per day. Many, many computers are unknowingly infected.

Run the Klez removal tool on your system, just to make sure:

(please remove any spaces)

Klez is nasty! Good luck.
